512MB DDR2 Registered SDRAM

White Electronic Designs Corp. (WEDC) introduced its 512MB DDR2 Registered SDRAM, with PLL, Mini-DIMM. Designed for advancedtca, compactpci and vme applications, the new JEDEC-standard DDR2 Mini-DIMM is a 64Mx72 DDR2 SDRAM high density memory module consisting of nine 64M x 8bit with 4 banks DDR2 Synchronous DRAMs in FBGA packages, mounted on a 244-pin dual in-line memory module FR4 substrate.

According to the press release, the 512MB DDR2 Mini-DIMM was developed to overcome the challenges experienced when using standard DDR SO-DIMMs, with ECC functionality. With DDR2, said WEDC, there are not enough I/O pins on a 200-pin SO-DIMM to accommodate the ECC function. The resulting 244-pin Mini-DIMM overcomes this challenge and enables space saving memory options to support a variety of applications, including Internet backbone switches, gateways, edge routers, embedded computing systems and industrial control equipment.

The 512MB DDR SDRAM Mini-DIMM (part number WV3HG64M72EER-D7) features fast data transfer rates of PC-3200 and PC-4200, and clock speeds of 200MHz and 266MHz. The module includes differential data strobe option, multiple internal device banks for concurrent operation, supports duplicate output strobe, and serial presence detect (SPD) with EEPROM.

The 512MB DDR2 SDRAM is priced at $110 each in volumes of 1,000 pieces with a lead time of 4 to 6 weeks. RoHS-compliant and Pb-free products are also available.
