Hewlett Packard Corp. (HP) has expanded its licensing agreement with SRS Labs Inc. to include the patented SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround sound technology in their latest micro display TVs, models MD5020, MD5820, MD6580 and MD5880. These are the first products from HP to include TruSurround XT.

"This newly expanded agreement with SRS furthers our strategy to deliver a powerful audio experience to match the crisp, clear image quality of our latest micro display products," said B.K. Kumar, product marketing manager for HP.

Currently, HP includes SRS WOW in their plasma and LCD lines, which were launched last October. These new multi-sized display products will be available in early October at major key regional and specialty AV retailers.

HP said it has selected TruSurround XT so anyone who purchases these TV receivers can enjoy a compelling "virtual" surround sound experience, without the need for a 5.1 speaker system. TruSurround XT brings multichannel, surround encoded, stereo and even mono audio alive with an encompassing surround sound experience from the TV's stereo speakers. Two additional powerful audio features, SRS Dialog Clarity and SRS TruBass are also included to provide quality improvements of the audio experience.

SRS Dialog Clarity is believed to improve dialog intelligibility during passages of movies where the actors' dialog is difficult to understand, a common problem due to today's production techniques and excessive use of surround audio effects.

SRS TruBass is a patented bass enhancement technology that delivers deep, rich bass over small speakers and headphones, a suitable companion for products with sleek, slim designs, such as micro display TVs. It also improves low frequency performance up to an octave below the limitations of the speaker drivers in these narrow configurations.
