ZMD CMOS' EEPROM saves, processes complex configurations

ZMD AG's new CMOS device features an integrated EEPROM that promises to enable users to save and process complex configurations such as inversion and data filtering.

One of the most distinctive features of the ZMD ASI4U, said the company, is an isolated transmitter mode that allows high module symmetry in high-current applications where a safety mode is vital. Additional features of the ASI4U include an isolated floating ASI transmitter that is suitable for highly symmetrical, high-power applications, as well as an electronic inductor with a 55mA current drive capability and an AS-I safety mode. The device also incorporates four inputs for ASI-slave applications; 4 outputs for ASI-safety applications; 4 parameter ports for highly symmetrical applications; a failure indicator; 2 LED pins for ASI-master applications; a data strobe signal for connected electronics; and a parameter strobe signal for connected electronics used in ASI-repeater applications. A 41/40 mode and a synchronous data I/O mode allow for flexible bus interface, and the additional addressing channel is accessible through the chip's infrared port.

Like other members of the company's AS-I family, the ASI4U offers fully compatible functions aligned with the established AASI V2.11 and V3.0 specifications. The part is drop-in compatible to the existing ZMD AASII device, allowing for easy upgrade.

The ASI4U is packaged in a 28-lead, 5.3mm SSOP and is tailored for temperatures ranging from -25C to 85C. The device is priced at $5.30 each in low volumes and is encased in a "green" plastic package with Pb-free terminals.
