Omron establishes development center in Shanghai

Omron Corp. has announced the establishment of a new development center, named Omron Institute of Sensing & Control Technology (Shanghai) Co. Ltd, located at the Zizhu Science Park, Shanghai, China.

The center will be one of the core R&D facilities for Omron. Mainly organized by local researchers and engineers, it is expected to enable quick response to local needs and contribute to developing new technologies that will benefit the entire Omron group. The facility is also adjacent to research, educational institutes and Shanghai Jiaotong University.

R&D will focus on cutting edge sensing and control technology. One of the main themes will be Omron's vision sensing technology that recognizes human faces and various objects and shapes. Initially, the center will consider 100 participating researchers and engineers concentrating on about 30 themes. Omron plans to double both participants and themes by the end of this year 2007.
