ADC delivers 72dBFS SNR, 84dBc SFDR at 170MS/s

Texas Instruments Inc. announced a 14bit, 170MS/s ADC that promises unmatched dynamic performance. The ADS5545 offers 72dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 84dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at the maximum sample rate of 170Msamples/s and an input frequency of 150MHz, providing increased system capabilities in advanced communications, instrumentation, test and measurement, medical, video and imaging applications.

"The ADS5545 builds upon the leadership performance of the ADS5500 14bit, 125MS/s ADC by offering best-in-class performance in a 7-by-7mm QFN package with only 1W core power dissipation," said Roberto Sadkowski, business unit manager for TI's high-speed ADCs. "This new device enables a wide range of benefits such as improved receiver capabilities in wireless communications, higher quality imaging in video systems and extended signal analysis for test equipment."

The device includes an internal sample and hold, low-jitter clock buffer, internal reference, and options for parallel CMOS or LVDS outputs. It operates from a single 3.3V supply and is specified over the industrial temperature range of -40C to 85C.

The ADS5545 is already sampling, with volume production scheduled for 2Q 2006. The device comes in a 48-pin QFN package, and has a suggested resale price of $62.50 in 1,000-piece quantities. Evaluation modules are also available.
