HELP power amplifiers for CDMA apps

Anadigics Inc. introduced a new generation of High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP) power amplifiers (PAs) for CDMA applications. The PAs are designed to eliminate the requirements for external voltage regulation, reducing bill of materials cost and PCB space. Measuring 3 mm by 3 mm the new CDMA PAs are footprint compatible with the company's 4-by-4mm CDMA PAs, thereby reducing time-to-market for new designs.

The ICs are manufactured using the company's InGaP-Plus technology, which integrates bipolar and field-effect transistor (FET) structures on the same InGaP GaAs die.

The AWT6307 targets the US cellular band, and the AWT6308 is for US PCS band. Efficiency is specified at 20 percent at 16dBm and 40 percent at 28dBm. These new PA modules offer low quiescent currents of 16mA and leakage currents of less than 1?A to further reduce power consumption and increase talk-time.

The new power amplifiers are offered in compact 3-by-3-by-1mm modules and are designed for applications that require European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) solutions. The AWT6307 and AWT6308 maintain pin-to-pin compatibility with existing 4-by-4mm amplifiers, offering up to 50 percent space savings.

The AWT6307 and AWT6308 are priced at $1.29 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples are already available.
