LSI Logic Corp. will port the MegaRAID line to Sun Microsystems' Solaris10 Operating System (OS) for x64/x86. Once complete, LSI Logic and Sun customers will be able to cost-effectively manage, protect and share information, using MegaRAID systems and software with the Solaris 10 OS on X64/X86 processor-based systems. Supporting the Solaris 10 OS builds on LSI Logic's goal to bring industry-leading I/O technologies to market, and to increase the RAID attach rate in the Solaris community.

"With over 2.6 million registered licenses and Sun's growth in the x64/x86 server space we are seeing unprecedented demand for Solaris 10, the most advanced OS on the planet," said Christopher Ratcliffe, Director of Solaris Marketing, Sun Microsystems. "Adding support for the LSI MegaRAID adapter to the Solaris 10 OS on x64/x86 platforms means that our customers now have access to even greater levels of storage performance and data integrity."

Offering an extensive family of MegaRAID adapters, ranging from Ultra320 SCSI to 3Gbps SATA II and SAS, LSI Logic MegaRAID solutions are designed for mid-range servers, direct attached storage (DAS) and high-performance workstations. The dual channel Ultra320 SCSI PCI-X MegaRAID adapter currently supports the Solaris 10 OS, on x64/x86 platforms.

"LSI Logic is pleased to offer its customers an extensive variety of operating system support to allow them to implement our industry-leading MegaRAID adapter into the server or workstation environment that best suits their storage computing demands," said Kelly Bryant, director of marketing and product planning at LSI Logic RAID Storage Adapters division. "With additional support for the Solaris 10 OS on x64/x86 platforms, our customers will benefit from enhanced speed and security for their storage applications."
