Infineon Technologies AG and Nanya Technology Corp. said Thursday (Sept. 29) that they have signed an agreement to extend their DRAM cooperation to the joint development of 60-nanometer manufacturing processes for 300-mm diameter wafers, starting immediately.

The cooperation is the extension of the existing co-development of the 90-nm and 70-nm production technologies and the production technology developed for use in 2008 would be available to Infineon, Nanya and Inotera Memories Inc., their manufacturing joint venture.

As well as working together on manufacturing processes at Infineon's site in Dresden, Germany, the two partners are to collaborate on the development of 60-nm reference products. Infineon and Nanya have committed 100 people to work on this development project.

"The extension of the successful strategic development partnership with Nanya towards the 60nm technology will pave the way to increase our DRAM manufacturing productivity significantly," said Kin Wah Loh, president of Infineon's memory products business group, in a statement. "The cooperation with Nanya proves the efficiency of Infineon's partnership approach and gives us a competitive edge in the highly dynamic DRAM industry."

The joint statement from Infineon (Munich, Germany) and Nanya (Taoyuen, Taiwan) did not touch on whether the companies intended to change Inotera's status. Executives from the companies have been reported as saying that Inotera would list on the Taipei stock exchange, possibly as soon as October.

Inotera focuses on the production of DRAM products and has ramped to a manufacturing capacity of more than 60,000 wafer starts per month. The stock exchange listing was discussed in the context of raising cash for Inotera to build its next wafer fab.
