FPC connector with flip-lock mechanism

A new vertical ZIF-style FPC connector from SMK Electronics features a flip-lock mechanism to secure the flex circuit, which ensures greater stability and reliability, said the company.

The FP-5F series of 0.5mm pitch connectors has lead-free plated contacts and is available in 50 positions. Key specifications include a voltage rating of 50V, 0.5A, AC/DC, contact resistance of 30 m? maximum, insulation resistance of 100 M? minimum at 100Vdc, and a withstanding voltage of 100Vac for one minute.

The flip-cover structure makes it possible to separate the cover operation from the FPC insertion section, which eliminates the stress on the cover when inserting the flex circuit. The new connector is shipped with the lever thrown in the open position, eliminating the need to release the lever, and is suitable for automatic insertion. These devices may be used in portable handheld devices, flat panel displays and DVD-HDD recorders.

The FP-5F series FPC connector is priced at 95 cents each in a minimum quantity of 100. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
