TriQuint's new millimeter wave amps offer high output power

TriQuint Semiconductor Inc. has introduced four new millimeter wave amplifiers designed for the demanding bandwidth needs of point-to-point radios, point-to-multipoint communications, and commercial or military satellite communications applications. The new products are optimized for electrical performance by combining high output powers with very wide bandwidths at millimeter wave frequencies.

All four of the new parts are:

The TGA4521 is a wideband millimeter wave driver amplifier covering the 32GHz to 45GHz frequency range. This new product has 25dBm saturated output power and 24dBm output power at 1dB compression. Small signal gain is 16dB, and it exhibits an output third-order intermodulation intercept point of 33dBm with 16dBm input tones. A wide variety of applications are appropriate for this part including point-to-point and point-to-multipoint digital radio and military satellite communications.

The TGA4522 is a balanced version of the TGA4521; it offers a higher output power capability with 27.5dBm saturated and 27dBm output power at 1dB compression performance at 38GHz. It has a correspondingly higher third-order incept point of 36dBm with 19dBm input tones. Small signal gain is 18dB with nominal return loss (input and output) of 15dB. Applications appropriate for this part include point-to-point and point-to-multipoint digital radio and military satellite communications.

The TGA4046 is a balanced high power amplifier MMIC for Q-band applications, particularly military and commercial satellite uplink communications. This new product provides saturated output power of 33dBm and 32dBm output power at 1dB compression. Frequency range is 41GHz to 46GHz. Its small signal gain level is 17dB, which leads to low transmit chain part count and efficient power combining. The part is balanced on-chip using Lange couplers providing input and output return loss in excess of 16dB.

The TGA4040 is a unique medium power amplifier/frequency multiplier MMIC for a variety of applications including military and commercial satellite communications, electronic warfare, digital radio and instrumentation. This new product is a power amplifier with output characteristics that may be adjusted to provide two- or three-times frequency multiplication and simultaneous amplification of the input signal. These qualities make the TGA4040 particularly suitable for local oscillator chain applications. The part's frequency range is 17GHz to 43GHz; output power at 1dB compression is greater than 20dBm. It has a small signal gain level of 25dB. Simple bonding and bias voltage changes optimize either 2x or 3x output frequencies, with no additional circuit components required.
