Elma Bustronic Corp. has expanded its VXS backplane family with the introduction of a new 20-slot Dual Star VXS backplane. This VME Switched Serial backplane features two hub slots and 18 payload slots.
The 20-slot VXS backplane comes in an 18-layer controlled-impedance stripline design. To help control impedance and minimize crosstalk, the new design uses a low dielectric Nelco PC-board material for improved signal performance. The 7U height of the backplane allows for plenty of space for power taps (3.3-, 5-, &plsumn;12V and GND). The VXS backplane is compliant to the VITA 38 specification for System Management and to the VITA 1.7 Increased Current Specification.
The VXS Switched Serial standard is fully backwards-compatible to VME/VME64x. It uses a new 6.4 Gbits/s high-speed connector across the P0 section of a VME64x backplane, allowing the use of switched fabric signals for higher bandwidth and reliability. Designers have the flexibility of plugging in standard VME64x cards for parallel bus only, and integrating new payload and switch cards for parallel bus and switch fabric transport or switch fabric transport only, said the company.
Pricing for the 20-slot VXS backplane is less than $2,000, depending on volume and configuration requirements. Delivery is four to six weeks.
