Littelfuse Inc. said it has introduced the industry's smallest protection thyristor. The new Teccor Q2L series SIDACtor, designed for high-density board telecom applications and customer premises equipment (cpe), delivers the performance required for telecom protection in a chipscale package.

Incorporating its SIDACtor technology into a new low-profile chipscale package for maximum footprint and height reduction, the Q2L series offers a 54 percent reduction in PC-board real estate requirements and a 51 percent reduction in height profile (1mm height on PC-board).

While the package size has been significantly reduced, as compared with the previous generation's DO-214AA package, the Q2L SIDACtor provides exceptional bidirectional transient voltage protection and offers a wide range of Ipp (peak pulse current) ratings including 75A for the 5 x 310/10 x 700?s event (ITU/YDT waveform), 80A for 10 x 1,000?s event (GR 1089 waveform) and 100A for 10 x 560?s event (TIA-968). Compared to DO-214AA solutions, no other circuit protection device offers this functionality in a small package size, according to the company. The device is also RoHS compliant.

Available in a QFN (quad flatpak no-lead) package, the Q2L device is priced at 28 cents in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is approximately eight weeks.
