CSR plc of the UK has announced that samsung has selected its BlueCore silicon and software stack for Bluetooth connectivity in Samsung's gsm handsets. The SGH-E750 and SGH-E760 use BlueCore3-ROM and proprietary software to offer connectivity with other Bluetooth devices. The handsets are also capable of streaming MP3 music via Bluetooth to the latest line of Bluetooth stereo headsets such as the SBH100 from Samsung. The SBH100 headset also uses BlueCore and enables handsfree voice calls.

To enable MP3 streaming and handsfree call handling, the handsets support the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Audio Visual Remote Control Profile (AVRCP), which allows calls and music to be controlled from the headset, according to the press release.

"GSM accounts for more than 2/3 of the world's mobile telecommunications industry and consumers are increasingly demanding access to the latest developments in technology," said Matthew Phillips, VP Asia of CSR. "Listening to music with a wireless headset has always been popular with consumers using proprietary technologies for home cinema. As phones now support MP3 music playback, we have brought that flexibility to the mobile phone industry using the universal Bluetooth standard."
