Over 53 percent of 200 industrial end-users and systems integrators are considering deploying a wireless sensor network over the next year, according to an online study by B&B Electronics and Sensicast Systems.

By comparison, a similar survey in January found 45 percent of respondents planning to deploy a wireless sensor network in 2005.

Interest in wireless sensors networks specifically for industrial monitoring has also increased as 73 percent of respondents are researching wireless networks for use in these environments, compared to 64 percent of respondents surveyed in January, the study found.

Reliability of wireless sensor networks were the main reason respondents were delaying deployment, according to 33 percent of those surveyed.

The survey added that 2.4GHz remains the favored frequency of operation, with twice as many respondents selecting 2.4GHz compared with 900MHz in earlier surveys.
