Frontier Silicon, a fabless manufacturer of semiconductors for mobile digital tv and dab digital radio products, has opened an office in Seoul, South Korea. The office will help handset manufacturers in the development of mobile TV products for the global market and will offer applications engineering support and customer service in preparation for the world's first commercial T-DMB mobile television service.

"This office is therefore going to be an important part of our commitment to the region, and contribute to the growth of a potentially fast-growing market for mobile digital television services," said Anthony Sethill, CEO of Frontier Silicon.

"Over 120 million handsets are manufactured a year in South Korea. With mobile TV being the big killer application the mobile communications and broadcast industries have been waiting for, whatever happens here in South Korea will undoubtedly be a blueprint for many markets worldwide," said K.N. Kim who will head the new office. "Frontier Silicon has invested heavily in mobile TV product development starting with our first semiconductor solutions for T-DMB over two years ago in conjunction with our partners in South Korea. With our new operation here we are ideally placed to support some of the leading players in the mobile TV market at this exciting time."

Frontier Silicon recently demonstrated T-DMB compliant mobile TV reception using the company's Kino chipset. Frontier Silicon also demonstrated its DVB-H mobile TV capability for the first time last month.
