Freescale Semiconductor has teamed with Flextronics Software Systems to develop an IPSec-VPN based security router that is being offered as an 'OEM-ready' solution.

Powered by Freescale's MPC8555E PowerQUICC III processor and FSS's Enhanced Security System (ESS) software, the platform is being demonstrated for the first time at Freescale's Technology Forum, which begins Tuesday (Oct 18).

"By teaming with Flextronics Software Systems, we are providing enterprise customers with a PowerQUICC III processor-based VPN router platform solution that can be taken to market quickly and with minimal development cost," said Lynelle McKay, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Digital Systems Division.

The companies say they decided to collaborate as they have strong synergies in hardware- and software-based security technology.

Flextronics Software Systems, formerly Hughes Software Systems, is making the ESS software evaluation package available on Freescale's PPCEVAL-8555-CDS reference system.
