In a recent survey titled "The State Of Asia Pacific Technology Adoption And Governance," Forrester Research, Inc. found that IT budgets are up in the region with 36 percent of the respondents having increased their technology spending this year. The survey also found that most of the respondents (53 percent) have a good outlook for the next 12 months.

"We found that economic maturity and growth rates were relative indicators of the varying responses to IT adoption and spending across Asia," said John C. McCarthy, vice president, Forrester Research. "IT spending increases are pronounced in India and ASEAN, while South Korea, which is struggling to regain economic growth, is the only country to see net budget decreases. In general IT spending priorities are healthyoverall, 21 percent of spending is going towards new IT initiatives. However, Japan and Australia and New Zealand stand out, having committed the largest percentage of IT budget to ongoing maintenance."

The research firm gathered 700 respondents in China, Japan, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and ASEAN countries to find out about their spending and industries this year and beyond.

Forrester found out that the top IT spending areas over the next 12 months include security, systems management, consolidating infrastructure and application integration. China's focus is on basic infrastructure and e-commerce while 34 percent of the respondents in India are looking at spending for new IT initiatives.
