LSI Logic Corp. has added a new slice in it RapidChip IntegratorQS Platform ASIC family, the RC11Si204, which provides peripheral and storage media developers with two lanes of GigaBlaze serializer/deserializer (serdes).

The RC11Si204 offers up to 500K usable ASIC gates and 500Kb of flexible MatrixRAM memory. Each of the two integrated GigaBlaze SerDes ports supports a single lane of PCI Express (PCIe), SATA, SAS, serial Rapid I/O, Gigabit Ethernet or Fiber Channel.

The new product is aimed at helping developers embedding PC architecture platforms in communications and storage applications get new products to market, which need up to four lanes of standard-compliant Serdes running at up to 4.25Gbps.

"Designers require cost-effective, single-chip custom silicon for PCI Express bridging applications," said Yousef Khalilollahi, LSI's director of RapidChip Marketing, in a statement. "LSI Logic's RapidChip IntegratorQS RC11Si204 not only offers an elegant single-chip, low-cost PCI Express solution, but also has significant room for additional system integration."

Even after a PCIe x1 link and transaction layer protocol implementation, more than 300K ASIC gates are still available, Khalilollahi said.

The RC11Si204 is available for $9.90 in quantities of more than 250,000 units.
