According to the UMTS Forum, the mobile entertainment industry is expected to generate revenues of up to US$47 billion by 2010 in the Asia-Pacific. This positions mobile entertainment as a key driver for wireless data usage and revenue.

In response to this growth, the 3G World Congress and Exhibition will hold a special forum session on "Profiting from mobile Content, gaming and Entertainment Business Over 3G," during the show this November. "As the entertainment world continues on its exponential growth, this special forum will inspire the direction of where it is going," said Daniel Kirwin, managing director of the 3G World Congress and Exhibition.

The session will be led by top executives from the mobile entertainment world including EMI Music, ESPN, Green Tomato, Mobile Media Asia Pacific, Mobile Entertainment Forum, Warner Music Group and Qualcomm Internet Services. The special session will focus on profitable business models for mobile TV, gaming and entertainment services and applications.

A research by Informa Telecoms Media estimates global mobile games revenues will be worth US$2.6 billion by the end of this year with Japan leading the industry followed by South Korea, China, Taiwan and Singapore.

"We believe entertainment and game services on mobile will be more and more multi-media rich with convergence and crossover from different industries," said Arthur Chang, founder and CEO of Green Tomato. "That is an indication that the market is ready in adopting 3G-enabled mobile entertainment."

Now on its 10th year, the 3G World Congress and Exhibition will be held in Hong Kong this November, with over 8,000 visitors expected to attend.
