TFT-LCD with an integrated touch screen

Touting outstanding price/performance value, Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas has rolled out a 3.5-inch QVGA thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) with an integrated touch screen for next-generation handheld applications. This new LQ035Q7DH06 display also serves up high brightness, low power consumption and high color saturation.

Designed using Sharp's Advanced-TFT technology, the new module is a higher performance upgrade of the LQ035Q7DH01, offering 225 nits of brightness from six high-efficiency white LED backlights and four percent reflectivity. Use of the high-efficiency LEDs also reduces power consumption. Power consumption is 405mW with the backlight (21mW without backlight). The display also offers readability in a wide range of ambient environments.

The new QVGA mobile display includes a high bright panel with transflective properties and 262,144 colors. The contrast ratio is 80:1 in transmissive mode and 3:1 in reflective mode. This display panel only requires a Sharp supplied ASIC timing control chip (part number LZ9FC23). Both the LQ035Q7DH06 display and LZ9FC23 controller are compliant to the European Union's RoHS directive.

The display also features an integrated touch panel that simplifies the design process by allowing design engineers to include a user interface, said the company, lending itself to a greater range of handheld product applications including portable media players, handheld gaming devices and portable DVD players. It can also be used in applications that call for greater on-screen performance such as PDAs, GPS/navigation devices, test and measurement instruments and portable patient monitoring equipment.

Available next month (November 2005), pricing for the LQ035Q7DH06 is $150.20 in a single quantity.
