Toshiba licenses ARM processor for CE SoCs

Toshiba Corp. has announced that it has licensed the ARM1176JZF-S processor to develop SoCs for advanced digital consumer electronic devices.

The ARM processor is manufactured in 90nm process and incorporates the ARM TrustZone security technology to secure personal information and other data stored in the built-in memory. Running at over 550MHz, the ARM1176JZF-S has a vector floating-point unit that speeds up 3D graphics. It features the ARM Intelligent Energy Manager (IEM) technology for reducing power consumption by as much as 70 percent.

"ARM continues to be a strategic partner of Toshiba," said Yutaka Murao, general manager of Telecommunication & Custom LSI, System LSI Division I at Toshiba's Semiconductor Company. "The superb performance, high security, and low-power consumption of the ARM11 family processors reinforce Toshiba's development of SoCs for innovative digital consumer electronics products and mobile phones."

"Industry adoption of the ARM11 family continues to accelerate in Japan," said ARM KK president, Takafumi Nishijima in a statement. "Toshiba's selection of the ARM high performance, low-power consumption solution will further expand the presence of ARM in key markets such as consumer digital electronics and mobile devices."
