Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd has developed what it touts as the industry's fastest computer graphics memory. The GDDR4 memory can process 10GB of gaming and video images per second.

Key to the fast processing speed is the Data Bus Inversion (DBI) and Multi-Preamble technologies that eliminates transmission delay, which ups transmission speed by 56 percent more than current graphics products.

Samsung's first GDDR4 memory is a 256Mb chip running at 2.5Gbps. The company plans to sample 2.8Gbps GDDR4 memory by the end of 2005 with mass production expected in the first half of 2006.

The current global GDDR market is valued at US$1.5 billion and is expected to reach US$1.89 billion by 2006, according to Mercury Research. Samsung currently has 50 percent of the DRAM market followed by Hynix and Infineon.
