Power-One's 40A QME48 Series of quarter-brick DC/DC converters touts industry-leading thermal performance when compared to other 40A quarter-bricks, and most 40A half-bricks. The module, for communications and server applications, also boasts an MTBF of 13.9 million hours (as per Telcordia TR-332).

The QME48, with outputs from 1V to 3.3V in six basic models, delivers up to 37A at up to 70C with just 300 LFM of cooling. No heat sink is required, and thus the low-profile (10.8mm) module minimizes airflow shadowing to enhance cooling for downstream devices.

Additional features include a 36Vdc to 75Vdc input range, differential LC-filter, no minimum-load requirement, remote on/off functionality, 100V input transient withstand for 100ms, start up into pre-biased loads, remote sense, and output voltage trim. Input-to-output isolation is 2kV. The module has output over-current, input under-voltage lockout, and input over-voltage shutdown protection.

These quarter-bricks meet the requirements of UL60950 and Class B conducted emissions per FCC and EN55022 when used with an external filter. The QME48 is priced at $48 each in 1,000-piece orders. Evaluation units are usually available from stock. Production quantities are typically available in six to eight weeks.
