OP520/OP521 series devices

Now available in a 1206 case size, TT electronics OPTEK Technology's new series of NPN silicon transistors are designed for infrared (IR) detection in sensing applications. The new miniaturized surface-mount OP520/OP521 series devices tout fast response times of 15 microseconds for machine automation, miniature optical encoders and other high-speed, non-contact position sensing systems.

The OP520 and OP521 series devices are silicon NPN phototransistors designed to detect 880-nm wavelength infrared light. Both IR detectors are packaged in a 1206 chip with a flat molded lens. The OP520 features an opaque lens to shield it from ambient light, while the OP521 lens is water clear, giving it a wider response range.

Electrical performance of the OP520/521 series is characterized at a collector-emitter voltage of 30V, emitter-collector voltage of 5V, and collector current of 20mA. The devices offer power dissipation of 75mW at 25C. They are RoHS-compliant, as well as compatible with high temperature (260C) lead-free soldering processes, and are rated for operation from -25C to 85C.

The OP520/OP521 Series are designed to be mechanically and spectrally matched to OPTEK's OP250 series of surface-mount infrared LEDs.

Typical pricing for the OP520/OP521 series phototransistors starts at 20 cents each in quantities of 1,000. Samples are available immediately. Production quantity lead times are from stock to eight weeks, if not available in stock.
