FFVE series

AVX Corp. beefed up the temperature and voltage operating conditions of its medium power film capacitor family for DC filtering and low reactive power requirements. The FFVE series is an alternative to electrolytic technology and is suitable for fuel cell converter, UPS, motor drive and industrial power supply applications.

The FFVE devices use a non-impregnated metallized polypropylene or polyester dielectric, which features a controlled self-healing process, specially treated to have a very high dielectric strength in operating conditions. The capacitor has a capacitance range of 12?F to 400?F with a voltage range that extends to 1,900Vdc and an operating temperature of up to 105C. The FFVE capacitors meet the Level 2 requirement of the fire behavior standard NF F 16-102.

"The special design also gives the series very low stray inductance, and because the FFVE can withstand much higher levels of surge voltage, very high rms current and has a longer lifetime, the FFVE is a very interesting alternative to electrolytic technologies," said Bill Peace, AVX's senior applications engineer, in a statement.

Typical pricing starts at $30 each in quantities of 100. Delivery is 12 weeks.
