Maxims new power-supply solution targeted at TFT LCD panels

A complete linear-regulator power-supply solution targeted at thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD panels in LCD monitors and LCD TVs was recently released by Maxim Integrated Products. Highly integrated to save cost and space, the MAX8761 includes a high-performance linear regulator, a positive and a negative charge-pump regulator, built-in power-up sequence control, and a high-current operational amplifier. The MAX8761 also provides logic-controlled high-voltage switches to control the positive charge-pump output.

The MAX8761's linear regulator directly steps down the input voltage to generate the supply voltage for the source-driver ICs. Output accuracy is 1.6 percent with a fast transient response. The two built-in charge-pump regulators generate the TFT gate-on and gate-off supplies. The high-current operational amplifier is typically used to drive the LCD backplane (VCOM) and features high-output current (150mA), fast slew rate (12V/5s) and wide bandwidth (12MHz). Its rail-to-rail inputs and output maximize flexibility.

The MAX8761 is available in a 4-by-4mm, low-profile (0.8mm), 24-pin thin QFN package, and operates over the -400C to 850C temperature range. Prices start at $3.62 (1,000-up, FOB USA). A preassembled MAX8761 EV kit is also available with recommended external components to help reduce design time.
