Murata Electronics North America has developed a new surface-mount EMI suppression filter that promises increased performance and a smaller footprint. The new BNX022 measures 12-by-9-by-3mm and weighs 0.8g, making it smaller and thinner than previous versions. The trimmer dimensions are a result of advancements in capacitor materials and terminal formation technology, as well as improved packaging, said the company.

Providing noise suppression over a wide frequency range of 1MHz to 1GHz, the Pb-free BNX0222 EMI filters have a rated voltage of 50V and a current of 10A. The enhanced EMI filter is also said to achieve the highest level of noise suppression among surface-mount type products, providing up to 60dB of insertion loss.

Noise suppression in DC power supply lines helps improve equipment performance in a variety of entertainment, industrial and technology equipment, including flat panel displays, DVD players and servers, said Murata. Typically, these applications use leaded EMI suppression filters, but with increasing demands for higher current power supply lines coupled with the need to reduce circuit board space, it has made surface-mount EMI filters preferable in these applications.

Sample price for the BNX022 is $3.50. Delivery is approximately six to eight weeks.
