S-LCD Corp., a display making joint venture between Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and Sony Corp., has announced plans to spend an additional $83 million to increase LCD panel production capacity at its plant by 25 percent.

The facility at Tangjeong, South Korea, is a production facility dedicated to the manufacturing of amorphous thin-film transistor LCD panels for televisions. It has a production capacity of 60,000 panels per month with panel size of 1.87 meters by 2.2 meters. This size is also known as the "seventh generation" size of LCD substrate.

Rather than receive monies from its parents S-LCD intends to raise the capital itself in the Spring of 2006 with a plan to add a production capacity of 15,000 panels per month and increase capacity to 75,000 panels per month from July 2006.
