American Bright Optoelectronics launched a new family of LED-based light strip assemblies with three styles of surface-mount, dome or flat-lens PLCC LED devices assembled onto narrow PC-board strips. The new ABP series is easily configurable for use in a variety of lighting applications, including medical equipment such as scanners as well as architectural lighting and other interior applications.

The ABP series is available in two 16-unit or 32-unit in-line PC-board strip lengths of 449mm, widths of 12mm or 10mm, and by thickness of 1.6mm. The LEDs are mounted on 28mm or 14.3mm centers, respectively.

The16-unit strips are supplied with American Bright SuperNova domed or flat lens PLCC LEDs in standard colors and white. These devices measure 6-by-6mm with a 4.8mm height, including the domed lens. The viewing angle is 40 degrees for the 16-LED assemblies.

The 32-unit strips feature standard flat lens PLCC LED devices and measure 3.2-by-2.8mm with a 1.85mm height. These strips are available in both single and tri-color LEDs, including RGB. The viewing angle is 120.

Forward voltages (VF) for slotted types are rated at 12V maximum (Ta=25C), or 10V for 32-unit LED strip assemblies. Power dissipation is rated at 10.6W (white LED at 110mA), and forward current (IF) is specified at 110mA. The operating temperature range is -40C to 100C.

Standard LED strips are provided with soldered lead wire (red-black), or can be supplied with customer-specified harness/connector interfaces providing a "plug-and-play" unit for replacement and lower installation cost. Special configurations are available including the addition of passive devices such as resistors, capacitors or diodes and other circuitry. In addition, this alternative to incandescent lighting arrays or other larger lighting techniques, offers lower operating temperature and lower heat, and will operate with lower power consumption, said the company.

The 16-unit high-power PLCC ABP series light strips are priced from $16 each ($8 for the standard PLCC 32-unit LED strip).
