AVX Corp. has developed a low-profile, board-to-board connector designed specifically for miniature and handheld portable equipment. Designated the 5805 series, the connector offers a 0.4mm pitch and a 1mm stacking height.

The 5805 series connector features a double-sided contact structure adopted for the mating lock that is said to enhance the component's resistance to vibration and drop shock. It also uses a twin-rib-shaped plug side contact that eliminates foreign obstacles, such as splash flux, from interfering with the contacts, to improve contact reliability. In addition, the connector also incorporates a fine lock mechanism with a firm clicking response, which ensures a secure termination and also increases the retention force when connectors are unmated, according to the company.

The 5805 connector allows users to check conductivity and short-circuits in the connector under mated condition by offering a test connector that is able to withstand a large number of mating cycles. And because no metal is exposed on the bottom of the connector, the 5805 series is suitable for high-density packaging. Connectors with or without the boss are available.

Pricing typically starts at 60 cents each in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is eight weeks.
