e2v imaging sensor targets low light, scientific applications
Keywords:e2v technologies? CCD image sensor? CCD201?
e2v technologies introduced an innovative megapixel CCD image sensor designed for low light, scientific applications. According to the company, the new CCD201 sensor adds a new level of low light imaging capability to e2v's L3Vision sensor portfolio.
The CCD201 is a large format 1k x 1k, 13?m pixel image sensor designed for low light, high resolution scientific applications. Soon to be commercially available, the sensor will be one of the most sensitive image sensors available, said the press release.
With QE peaking at 95 percent and minimal induced noise, the CCD201 will be suitable to bio-science applications, such as drug discovery, bio-luminescence and fluorescence microscopy. The frame transfer device will also find areas of application within the astronomy sector. The CCD201 builds upon e2v's existing high performance L3Vision CCD product suite. It therefore offers all of the benefits of a solid-state sensor, plus outstanding low light capability in a megapixel sensor. This new product will be available in front- and back-illuminated formats, both of which offer sub-electron noise and a choice of electron-multiplying or traditional output. Each is capable of operating at an equivalent output noise of less than one electron at pixel rates of over 15MHz.
