Royal Philips Electronics announced two new Nexperia semiconductor system solutions that promise to enhance the quality of LCD TV experiences of the connected consumer while reducing the time-to-market for next-generation TVs.

Designed for mid to high-end LCD TVs, said Philips, the TV810 reference design brings unprecedented picture quality for analog and digital TV, and offers rich content for the connected environment. Meanwhile, the PNX5050 is one of the first system solution to offer a "natural motion" enhanced High Definition (HD) viewing experience.

"Today's announcements highlight Philips ability to offer a unique blend of advanced semiconductor technology and a broad portfolio of embedded solutions to consumer device manufacturers," said Jos Klippert marketing director for Digital TV solutions at Philips Semiconductors. "Products such as the PNX5050 will offer the end consumer a rich, judder-free HD viewing experience. As the television industry evolves, these new embedded solutions from Philips will drive digital and HD television standards to a wider market."

STB22x STB platforms
Philips developed the STB22x, a new family of complete STB platforms that bring together a validated turnkey STB design, third party software and world class support, to enable consumer electronics manufacturers to produce low cost STBs for cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast with fast time-to-market.

The STB22x offers support for standard definition personal STB22x, a new family of complete STB platforms video recorder, dual-input dual-output, MPEG2 and MPEG4, and also integrates USB 2.0 OTG and picture improvement features into the source decoder. The STB22x family will be extended in the middle of 2006 with a HD source decoder to support H.264 HD and WM9 HD streams.

Designed for HD LCD TV applications, the PNX5050 system solution enables world-class picture quality by being one of the first scaler on the market to integrate motion compensated de- interlacing with HD 'movie judder' cancellation.

HD movie judder cancellation technology increases the clarity of fast-moving HD images, especially film material originating from 24fps, by estimating the motion of moving images and updating the data with additional information to produce the effect of clean, natural motion. The result is a richer HD viewing experience, said Philips.

The TV810 is an integrated analog/digital hybrid system solution that includes advanced features such as multiformat audio/video decoding and rendering, which means that it is suitable for both global analog and digital broadcast TV sets with matrix displays, including LCD, PDP, DLP and LCOS. In addition, the Nexperia PNX1500 media processor combines media processing, network connectivity and display enhancement on a single chip.

The Nexperia PNX5050 system solution is priced at less than $20 per unit, while the Connected TV810 device is available for $63 per unit.
