Intel Corp. has signed up TiVo Inc. and about 40 other companies to work on making sure Intel's upcoming Viiv entertainment PC is a success, according to an Associated Press report which cited Intel as its source.

TiVo, a pioneer of the digital video recorder, has agreed to make sure recordings are transferable between the TiVo STB and the Viiv PC, the report said.

Other companies that develop television, music, photo and gaming content and applications are testing program, services and add-on, the report quoted Kevin Corbett, an Intel VP in charge of content services, as saying.

The participating companies include Afendis AG,, British Sky Broadcasting, MovieLink, Telecom Italia, VirginMega, Ubisoft Entertainment, Adobe Systems Inc., Ulead Systems Inc. and Sonic Solutions.

Viiv PCs are expected to come in a variety of forms roughly akin to consumer electronics devices. However they will all run Microsoft's Windows Media Center OS, the report said.

"We basically accelerated the heck out of Wi-Fi. We plan to do the same thing around digital entertainment," the report quoted Corbett as saying.
