NKK Switches has expanded its surface-mount switch line with a wide range of actuation types and sizes.

The new surface-mount switches are available in six actuation types that include toggle, pushbutton, slide, DIP slide, DIP rotary and tactile. Sizes range from ultra-miniature to subminiature. These new devices may be used in high-density applications and incorporated into handheld devices. Logic level capacity is standard for all models. Most devices feature UL94V-0 flammability ratings, and all supply crisp actuation to indicate circuit status.

The surface-mount switches are all constructed of heat resistant resins and can withstand vapor phase and reflow soldering. Terminals conform to standard PC-board grid spacing and are molded in and epoxy sealed. The gull-wing terminals are said to ensure mechanical stability and simplify solder joint inspection. The company said the growing industry practice of screening solder paste at decreasing thicknesses requires extremely flat component terminals to ensure contact with solder paste.

The toggle switches can be specified in single- or double-pole configurations, and they are available in five different circuit options, which include maintained-action and momentary-action models. Meanwhile, the pushbuttons are also available in single- or double-pole models with momentary circuits. All options are offered in upright or right-angle mount, and bracketed or unbracketed devices can be specified depending on application requirements.

The surface-mount slide switches are offered as single pole/double throw or single pole/three throw models and are side-actuated. The DIP slides can be configured in four or eight positions with either flush or extended actuators.

The 8mm and 10mm DIP rotary switches are available in both screw driver and shaft-actuated models, in binary or complement codes, with 10 and 16 positions. They are also offered in bracketed or unbracketed configurations, and in upright or right-angle models, as well as ultra-thin versions.

The 6mm tactile switches are available in two different families that feature unique characteristics and price points, said the company.

Packaging options include tape-reel, stick-tube and partitioned tray, depending up series and models. Pricing starts at 35 cents each in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is from stock to eight weeks.
