Winbond Electronics Corp. announced the W89C37 as its latest member of the WinFi family of WLAN products. The W89C37 has received the WMM Power Save certification by the WiFi Alliance due to the new features of its latest generation MAC and baseband IC.

Recognizing the importance of battery life in portable electronics applications, the addition of WMM Power Save in the W89C37 enables Winbond to continue its quest of power efficiency while maintaining high throughput wireless links. Along with other Alliance members, Winbond believes that the Power Save extensions to WMM base certification ensures an interoperable way to reduce power consumption without compromising the QoS data flow requested by the application session, said the press release.

Key features added by the W89C37 include:

? IEEE 802.11e known as QoS;

? IEEE 802.11h known as Dynamic Frequency Selection and Transmit Power Control;

? IEEE 802.11d known as Additional Regulatory Domains; and

? Wireless Distribution System/Wireless Bridge for Soft AP applications.

Limited edition samples of the W89C37 are already shipping with WMM Power Save test-beds while being evaluated by key OEMs. Production volume shipments will commence at the end of 1Q 2006.
