Sony Corp. has suspended sales of its digital still cameras (DSCs) in China in response to Zhejiang province's injunction to stop sales of its DSCs judged by authorities there to have fallen short of quality criteria.

The authority reportedly found that 13 of Sony's 5- and 6-model cameras fell below its standards.

The provincial authority said Sony's digital cameras fell short in four categories, including the automatic exposure correction mechanism. Local Sony representatives are talking with authorities to resolve the dispute.

All models were produced in China, and the alleged quality problem would not have an impact outside China, a Sony spokesman said.

Local media cited only Sony cameras in their reports about the quality problem. Sony is the most popular DSC brand in China, according to a survey this year by China market researcher Searchina Co. Ltd.
