Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) unveiled three integrated high-performance video amplifiers, which are touted to the first to offer full I?C programmability of all functions independently for each channel. According to TI, this feature provides designers the flexibility to configure a video system as required or on-the-fly, without the need for hardware upgrades or modifications.

The new THS7303, THS7313 and THS7353 amplifiers are designed with integrated Butterworth filters to provide all the analog signal conditioning required in video applications such as STBs, digital televisions, personal video recorders/DVD readers and portable USB devices.

TI said that the new three-channel devices feature 2.7V to 5V single-supply operation and are as much as 20x lower power than competing amplifiers. This reduces system thermal issues, increases long-term reliability and provides a key benefit for customers designing environmentally-friendly products, added the company.

In addition, the devices share the following key features: 2:1 input MUX; integrated 5th order low pass filters with Butterworth characteristics, which strikes a balance between group delay and attenuation; selectable input bias modes and rail-to-rail outputs to allow for a variety of AC and DC coupled modes; individual channel disable and independent channel mute control; and current of 0.1?A when all channels are disabled.

The THS7303 and THS7313 are video line driver output devices configured in a gain of 6dB with SAG correction, and are capable of driving up to two doubly-terminated 75 ohms video lines. The THS7303 integrates I?C-programmable 9-, 16- and 35MHz digital-to-analog converter (DAC) reconstruction filters for standard-definition digital television (SDTV), enhanced-definition television (EDTV) and high-definition television (HDTV), and a 190MHz filter bypass mode for 1080p or SXGA/UXGA video standards. The THS7313 includes a fixed 9MHz filter for SDTV.

The THS7353 is a video input device containing analog-to-digital converter anti-aliasing filter modes selectable at 9-, 16- and 35MHz along with a 150MHz bypass mode. The THS7353 unity gain amplifier can be configured with external resistors for gains up to 14dB to allow compensation of skin effect losses on cables or SinX/X DAC compensation.

The THS7303/13/53 video amplifiers are available in a 20-pin, Pb-free and Green thin shrink small outline package from TI and its authorized distributors. Suggested resale pricing in quantities of 1,000 is $1.65 for the THS7303 and THS7353, and $1.20 for the THS7313.
