50MHz waveform generators include PLL capabilities
Keywords:RF? RapidIO? PCI Express?
Although technologies such as microwave RF, RapidIO and PCI Express occupy the leading-edge limelight these days, not everyone needs GHz-domain test gear. There are still many applications for lower-frequency equipment.
For example, test-and-measurement vendor Fluke Corp. has some new 8x Series 50MHz auto-calibrating function generators that join the company's line of signal generators for low frequency (50MHz or lower) applications, such as audio and HF RF manufacturing and servicing. These precision instruments will also work down to 10MHz, and always exhibit less than 0.1percent jitter (50ps).
Equipped with IEEE-488.2 ports, these General Purpose Interface Bus-compatible boxes can serve on your bench as well as in ATE (automatic test equipment) applications.
Phase-lock generators
Fluke's Model 80 combines a function generator, linear and logarithmic sweep generator, and phase-lock generator capabilities with DC output. The Model 80 function generator is priced at about $4,500.
A Model 81 provides a function generator, pulse generator (with leading edge and trailing edge timing control), and a phase-lock generator. Its built-in counter/timer control automatically detects external reference frequencies when in a phase-locked loop operating mode. The Model 81 is priced at about $5,600.
