NeoMagic's mobile TV solution supports DMB, DVB-H

The new multimedia applications processor SoC from NeoMagic Corp. supports a range of mobile digital TV broadcast standards. The MiMagic 6+ mobile digital television solution is available for the ISDB-T mobile broadcast protocol, with each of the other major broadcast protocols, DMB (including DAB) and DVB-H available to customers in early 2006.

"Our MiMagic 6+ chip delivers a broadcast mobile digital television solution, ending handset manufacturers' and mobile operators' wait for this exciting new marketplace to develop. Our customers can choose the mobile television protocol best suited to their needs," said NeoMagic President and CEO Doug Young. "Our DVB-H and DMB solutions will enable and support flexible designs for various broadcast standards across the Americas, Asia and Europe."

The chip is based on a on a 200MHz ARM926EJ processor. Coupled with an ARM926 architecture, a unique integrated high-performance multimedia engine delivers high quality video encoding and decoding and high-performance 3D graphics, while dedicated on-chip hardware accelerators eliminate the requirement for external chips by delivering 2D graphics, video and up to 8x Java acceleration for mobile entertainment, the company said.

Other features of the MiMagic 6+ include advanced camera functions such as digital linear zoom, color correction and low light enhancement.
