Matsushita Battery Ind. Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Japan's Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd, has developed a new supply method that claims to reduce the size of a fuel cell for portable devices by 50 percent.

Matsushita has developed a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) technology by incorporating its new fuel supply technique with its stack technology, lithium ion battery and battery management system.

This cell itself is approximately 400cc (24 cubic inches), which is similar to the size of a beverage can and roughly half the size of models publicly demonstrated to date, according to the company.

With an average output of 13W, a peak output of 20W, and low weight that enables true mobility, a laptop PC is using this fuel cell is able to achieve up to 20 hours of runtime.
