PMC-Sierra has opened its development center in India, expected to house staff working on WiMax and storage technologies.

Staffing will be increased to 300 in the next couple of years, according to Robert Bailey, chief executive of PMC-Sierra Inc. He said the company does not expect problems getting the kind of talent it needs since it will offer engineering staff the opportunity for cutting-edge work.

PMC-Sierra already has existing development contracts with Wipro Technologies and HCL Technologies, both of which run dedicated offshore development centers for PMC-Sierra. The company employs 75 engineers here now, and expects to employ 250 engineers soon, according to Arun Bellary, managing director of PMC-Sierra's Indian operations.

The company said it would establish sales and support operations here to serve its Indian and overseas customers.
