Crystek Crystals Corp. has introduced a 1GHz voltage controlled saw oscillator (VCSO) that is said to deliver low noise, low jitter and a true sinewave output for a variety of applications, including PLL frequency translation, avionics, telecommunications and test and measurement.

The company attributes the VCSO's low jitter, low noise and true sinewave output to the module's design that consists of a FR5 PC-board and SAW crystal technology. The CVCSO-914-1000 VCSO features a -135dBc/Hz phase noise at 10KHz offset.

Housed in a 9-by-14mm surface-mount package, the CVCSO-914-1000 device uses a 5V supply and generates a true sinewave with 7dBm minimum output power and 150ppm minimum APR pullability. The VCSO has no sub-harmonics, and the second harmonic is -20dBc typical. The operating temperature is -200C to 700C.

The CVCSO-914-1000 is priced at $125 in small volume quantities.
