DC/DC converter delivers 250W

Tyco Electronics Power Systems Inc. announced the availability of the JHW250 series of DC/DC converters, delivering up to 250W output power in a half-brick format for RF power amplifier applications. Suitable for wireless base stations and other similar telecom equipment, the JHW250 aims to provide a lower cost solution for RF power amplifier applications, distributed power architectures and wireless networks.

The new power modules are isolated DC/DC converters that operate over a wide input voltage range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc, and provide a single output of 30.2V. These devices incorporate synchronous rectification technology and certain packaging techniques to achieve a typical efficiency of 92 percent at 30.2V with full load. The company added that the output is fully isolated, allowing versatile polarity configurations and grounding connections. In addition, the built-in filtering for both input and output minimizes the need for external filtering.

The converters are rated for a wide operating temperature range of -400C to 850C in an industry standard half-brick package of 57.9mm-by-61mm-by-12.7mm. Standard features include remote on/off, remote sense, low output ripple and noise, over-temperature protection, 2:1 input voltage range, output overcurrent/voltage protection, and output voltage adjustment. Threaded or non-threaded through-holes are available to allow for mounting to a cold wall; or the addition of a heatsink may be used for high-temperature applications. The converters are designed to be fully compliant to RoHS EU Directive 2002/95/EC, and to be used at ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facilities.

The JHW250 power modules are priced at $86.10 each for 1,000 units. Samples are already available.
