Fairchild Semiconductor introduced what it claims to be the smallest video filter/driver on the market for driving video images from cellphones to TVs, computer monitors or other larger display products. The FMS6151 is packaged in a 6-terminal MicroPak package measuring 1.45-by-1-by-0.55mm.

Product line manager Bob Vinton of Fairchild's signal conditioning products said that to improve image quality, the video filter/driver uses a 5th order butterworth low-pass filter that provides better stop band attenuation compared to typical 2nd and 3rd order solutions. "The FMS6151 helps designers by integrating battery-saving low-power consumption and image-enhancing filtering capability into a single package," Vinton said.

The FMS6151 provides a number of features, including DC-coupled inputs that eliminate the need for AC-coupling caps; 3.8mA supply current with power down to 25nA; operation of 2.7V to 5V that accommodates different power supply requirements; AC- or DC-coupled outputs and SAG correction for AC-coupled outputs.

The new product is housed in a Pb-free six-terminal MicroPak package that meets or exceeds the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B, and is compliant with the European Union requirements now in effect. Price is at 35 cents for 1,000 pieces and delivery is eight weeks ARO.
