PMC Sierra Inc.'s PM4390 ARROW M8xFE, a 10/100 Ethernet over SONET/SDH (EoS) mapping device, integrates grooming, aggregation and Ethernet Operation Administration and Maintenance (OAM) functions that are required for mainstream adoption of Ethernet into the last mile.
Providing packet processing capabilities for last mile Ethernet access, the PM4390 maps up to eight channels of full duplex 10/100M Ethernet into 155Mbps to 622Mbps SONET/SDH.
The PM4390 is designed to provide greater flexibility in Service Level Agreements (SLA) for enterprise Ethernet access, and serves as the data mapping function for IP DSLAM and 3G BTS backhaul.
"With the delivery of the ARROW M8xFE, our second generation data mapping solution, we have achieved the advanced function set and cost point required for Ethernet Access backhaul platforms," said Dino Bekis, VP of marketing and applications for PMC-Sierra's Communications Products Division.
With the PM4390 ARROW M8xFE, 10/100 EoS customers can develop feature- enhanced data cards for their metro access platforms while reusing their existing software, Bekis said.
The PM4390 ARROW M8xFE's integrated support for Ethernet OAM, link monitoring and fault signaling capabilities enable it to perform remote performance monitoring that's comparable to legacy T1/E1 services. They also allow it to provide flexible service models like Ethernet Private Line and Ethernet Virtual Private Line services to their enterprise customers.
In volumes of 5,000 and more, PMC-Sierra's ARROW M8xFE costs less than $200.
