Walsin acquires 85% stake at Kamaya Electric

Passive components maker Walsin Technology Corp. recently announced its acquisition of 85.84 percent of Japan-based Kamaya Electric Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (MMC). The agreement also entails Walsin's purchase of Kamaya's tangible fixed assets and inventory of the ceramic disc capacitor business of MMC Electronics Taiwan Co. Ltd.
Walsin said that the acquisition is part of its strategy to enhance its global competitiveness in the passive components industry.
Kamaya manufactures and develops high-end chip resistors, and accounts for 7 percent of the global market share. Meanwhile, MMC Electronics Taiwan has sales revenue of about $7.5 million.
