HSDPA/WEDGE radio evaluation module for <a href=3.5G handset apps" ALIGN="RIGHT">

Sirific Wireless Ltd reports that it has introduced the mobile industry's smallest multi-band HSDPA/WEDGE radio evaluation module for 3.5G handset applications. The EM3200 radio evaluation module incorporates a complete tri-band WCDMA (bands I, II and V), quad-band GSM/EDGE radio subsystem built around Sirific's SW3200 single-chip CMOS RF transceiver. This multi-band radio design incorporates fewer than 130 components in a board area of less than 7cm2.

The SW3200 is central to the EM3200 radio evaluation module. The SW3200 CMOS RF transceiver supports transmit and receive operation in all four EDGE, GPRS and GSM bands, as well as five WCDMA bands (I, II, III, IV and V) with HSDPA downlink data rates up to 10.2Mbps. It also interfaces directly to WEDGE baseband processors by means of an integrated 2.5G DigRF-compliant digital baseband interface and an analog baseband interface.

The EM3200 radio evaluation module implements state-of-the-art WEDGE radio front-end components, which are highlighted by Murata Electronics' innovative products. Among them are Murata's LMSP65MA-427 single-pole-nine-throw (SP9T) WEDGE antenna switch module with integrated GSM Rx SAW filters and LMRX3JCA-479 tri-band WCDMA Rx LNA and SAW module. These components, along with Murata's Band I WCDMA transmit SAW filter (SAFEB1G95FL0F00) and ceramic duplexer (DFYY61G95LANAD), are coupled with Sirific's SW3200 single-chip CMOS RF transceiver to create a cost-effective multi-band single-antenna WEDGE radio subsystem.

The EM3200 kit, which includes radio module hardware, documentation and technical support, is available now to mobile handset designers at a price of $950.
