Samsung Electronics Ltd has added to its SpinPoint family of hard disk drives four 2.5-inch products in capacities ranging from 100GB to 120GB. The M60 series of serial ATA: Designing for high-speed storage" target=_blank>parallel ATA (PATA) and serial ATA (SATA) hard disk drives (HDDs) are targeted at enterprise applications.

Samsung's additions include the M60 SATA series, which consists of the HM100JI, a 100GB drive that costs $170, and the HM120JI, a 120GB drive priced at $200. The M60 PATA series features a 100GB drive (HM100JC) and 120GB (HM120JC), which cost $150 and $180, respectively.

The M60 SATA series HDDs are suitable for enterprise applications such as blade servers that require SATA technology in a small form-factor. Daisy-chaining can be performed through slim cables, allowing users to store an unlimited amount of data. The M60 SATA series HDDs also feature 8MB of onboard data cache and a 5,400rpm spindle speed.

Members of the M60 series provide shock protection capability through a mechanical platform and able-bodied cover design engineered to minimize the intensity of external shock transmitted to critical drive components.

Both series are equipped with Samsung's Hybrid Latch System, a latch system that is designed to eliminate rattling noises and reduce the clicking noise generated when a drive moves its heads on and off the disk.

Each of the new M60 SATA series and M60 series PATA hard drives feature 60GB formatted capacity per disk, Fluid Dynamic Bearing Spindle motor technology, ATA SMART feature set, ATA Automatic Acoustic Management, ATA Device Configuration overlay, and Multi-Burst On-The-Fly Error Correction.
