Xilinx Inc. announced the availability of its compliant x1, x4 and x8 lane LogiCORE PCI Express (PCIe) IP core targeted for telecom, networking, storage and video applications. The IP core is compliant with the PCIe base specification v1.1 and is touted to be the only programmable x8 lane PCIe IP core to have completed all PCIe compliance and interoperability tests administered at PCI-SIG PCIe compliance workshop #48.

"The availability of a compliant, PCIe x8 lane FPGA-based IP offers a much needed flexible and programmable option to the embedded designer community," said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at The Linley Group, in a press release from Xilinx. "Rather than use expensive ASICs, designers have the option to quickly create solutions that work with industry's dominant chipsets while maintaining the ability to add their unique requirements."

The product is now available for immediate purchase for $25,000.
