Embedded system tool provider opens Japanese subsidiary

Embedded system development tool and model provider Vast Systems Technology Corp. announced the creation of a Japanese subsidiary and named former ATI Technologies executive Gen Shimada, a 20-year semiconductor and electronics veteran, its general manager.

Shimada has worked both in Silicon Valley and Japan, coming to Vast from a position as director of the consumer business unit at ATI Technologies Japan KK in Tokyo. Prior to ATI, he was a sales executive at Marvell Japan KK. He has also has worked as business development manager at C-Cube Microsystems, a marketing manager for LCD driver IC products at Cirrus Logic KK and as group leader of product marketing at National Semiconductor Japan KK.

"We are thrilled to have an executive of Shimada-san's caliber of experience and knowledge of the industry," said Alain Labat, Vast president and CEO, in a statement. "Vast's sales of virtual system prototyping tools and models in Japan are increasing. Our new subsidiary will allow Vast to provide optimal support to our Japanese customers and our Japanese distributor, GAIA Systems Solutions."

Shimada has an MBA from Waseda Graduate School of Business and has studied technology management at Tokyo University's graduate school of engineering. His undergraduate degree is in industrial engineering, from Tokai University. He also holds a certificate in multimedia engineering and programming from the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Vast provides tools for creating a virtual system prototype, described by the company as a cycle-accurate software model of a system that operates at near real-time speeds under actual software loads.
